A Culture of High Expectations and Inclusion

Ofsted recognised our ambition for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). The report highlights that “leaders encourage pupils to be aspirational,” fostering an inclusive environment where students are happy and strive to do their best.

Effective Behaviour Management

The implementation of the ‘Preston Way’ has established clear routines that minimise low-level disruption in lessons. Pupils reported that bullying is rare and expressed confidence in staff to handle any incidents effectively, contributing to a safe and supportive school atmosphere.

Broad and Balanced Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to “bring learning to life and life to learning,” offering a wide and varied range of subjects. Leaders have carefully planned the content to ensure logical progression, enabling students to build their understanding effectively over time.

Support for Students with SEND

Teachers are provided with clear information about pupils with SEND, allowing for precise planning and support. The curriculum for students attending the school’s autism base is ambitious and appropriately adapted, ensuring these pupils are well-prepared for their next steps.

Emphasis on Reading and Literacy

Reading is a central component of our curriculum. Pupils enjoy engaging with a diverse range of texts and receive effective support to develop their reading skills, particularly those at the early stages of learning to read.

Personal Development and Wellbeing

The school offers a comprehensive programme for personal development, covering topics such as online safety, relationships, and cultural awareness. Pupils have opportunities to participate in various extracurricular activities, including sports, music, and drama, enriching their educational experience.

Strong Leadership and Governance

Since the previous inspection, there has been a notable improvement in leadership and governance. Governors have enhanced their understanding of the school’s priorities and, alongside leaders, have effectively addressed staff well-being and workload, contributing to a positive working environment.
